Unfortunately, in our everyday lives, we are facing a major problem of environmental pollution caused by littering and careless waste management. There is a massive amount of trash lying around our towns and cities causing harm to local plants and animals, it is estimated that 80% of dead birds have plastic waste in their stomachs. ("Land Pollution Facts And Statistics - Rubbish Please", 2016) When waste is not disposed properly and left unattended, it can cause soil erosion and can be fatal to local animals. For example, a plastic six-pack collar decomposes after 450 years, there would be potential for animals to choke on it during this time.("Litter Information", n.d.) In order to clean up this mess, our company has created the ASTRO.
The ASTRO is an environmental vacuum focused on cleaning up the environment to improve the quality of life in city parks or areas with significant amounts of waste/litter. We aim to do so through the innovative combination of biosensors and Bluetooth technology, tying the robot back to the user. Waste is stored in a tank conveniently located on the top of the vacuum and when the maximum capacity has been reached, the ASTRO will return to a local home base and will properly dispose of the waste and recharge.
The ASTRO team was created by a group of students attending the Engineering and Science University Magnet School located in West Haven, CT. We provide a robot that is proficient in cleaning up target areas. Our robot that we are selling improves the cleanliness of the environment and transport waste and discard out of the environment. The ASTRO’s primary selling point which distinguishes it from other current designs on the market is its compact and lightweight design; to elaborate, many environmental services often involve the use of large trucks and vehicles, whereas the ASTRO is a smaller vacuum that can access more places using its wheels and tracks.
Our target audience primarily consists of commercial businesses, governments, and “green” consumers. The ASTRO can be used in a vast range of areas including parks, beaches, fields, and roads. With the ASTRO, we can preserve our environment to remain intact for the present as well as the future.
